Transfer Admission Requirements

Transfer applicants must present a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Prior to applying, VCCS applicants must complete an English composition equivalent to ENGH 101 (ENG 112). Students may provide secondary school coursework or test scores demonstrating English language proficiency.

Prior to applying, VCCS applicants must complete a college-level math course.

What Should I Consider When Selecting Courses?

Students must maintain an overall 2.5 GPA to be eligible for transfer into the major. The concentrations require maintaining a 3.0 GPA.

What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

Associate Transfer Degree Completion: Students who complete a transfer associate degree (AS, AA, AA&S, or AFA) from a Virginia Community College will receive a waiver of the Foundation and Exploration (lower division) Mason Core general education categories. To be eligible for the waiver, students must provide the George Mason Office of Admissions with a final, official transcript reflecting the degree conferral date. As a prerequisite for ENGH 302, ENGH 101 is not waived. Students must transfer in or complete ENGH 100 or ENGH 101 at George Mason with a C or higher.

What Can I Do With This Degree?

The Allied Health Sciences concentration prepares students with the prerequisite knowledge and skills needed to advance to graduate programs in pursuit of becoming an allied health professional, such as an athletic trainer, physical therapist, occupational therapist, sports medicine physician, or sports chiropractor.

The Strength and Conditioning concentration prepares students with the requisite knowledge and skills needed to become Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS). This certification is a requirement for many positions in personal training, strength and conditioning coaching, sport science, fitness, and player development.

A bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from George Mason is also a solid foundation for graduate study in the health care field, paving the way to study medicine, occupational therapy, physical therapy, athletic training, chiropractic medicine, and more.

Students who complete our program are prepared to sit for national certification exams such as the American College of Sports Medicine’s Certified Exercise Physiologist exam and the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam.

Earn an Accelerated Master’s degree in Kinesiology. Apply by the beginning of junior year. The Bachelor’s to Accelerated Master’s (BAM) allows you to save time and money, obtaining an MS degree with one extra year of course work.
Other Than Classes, Are There Other Program Requirements?

All Kinesiology students must have Emergency Cardiac Care (CPR, AED Certification at the level of a Healthcare Professional (e.g. American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals) and First Aid certifications before entering their first practicum experience (KINE 341 Kinesiology Practicum) and must maintain these certifications through the remainder of the Kinesiology degree program. The initial certification and all re-certifications must include successful completion of hands-on, practical skills, not just completion of online lessons/training.
