Academic Planning_Preparing for an Academic Advising Appointment

This document provides tips to prepare for your academic advising appointment.

Records and Documents

Bring important records to your academic advising appointment. Important records include, but are not limited to, the following: college transcripts, military transcripts, degree planning sheets, Advanced Placement Test Scores, CLEP Scores, and Individualized Educational Program (IEP) documentation.

Confirm Academic Information

Ensure that your academic information is up to date. Academic information includes, but is not limited to, the following: catalog year (the college catalog in effect at the time of your admission), program, major, minor, contact information, advisor assignment, graduation date, and transfer credit.

Prepare a List of Questions

Do not be afraid to ask questions! Ask questions about your course pre-requisites, degree requirements, degree completion timeline, catalog requirements, transfer credit, and anything else related to academics. Discuss your academic concerns and don’t hesitate to ask about campus resources such as tutoring, accommodations, and/or counseling services.

Next Steps: Activate an account inside of the transfer portal; then, schedule an appointment with an academic advisor. Check out the Transfer Resource Center for printable advising worksheets.
