Use this document to learn about Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science programs
What is a Bachelor of Arts (BA)?
A Bachelor of Arts is an undergraduate degree generally awarded after at least four years of full-time study. It is available to those interested in social sciences, liberal arts, humanities, history, languages, English, fine arts, and similar areas. Typically, mathematics and science requirements are fewer than for a Bachelor of Science program.
What is a Bachelor of Science (BS)?
A Bachelor of Science is an undergraduate degree generally awarded after at least four years of full-time study. It is typically available to those interested in a major in biological sciences, computer sciences, mathematics, physical and natural sciences, health sciences, business administration, and engineering.
Some institutions offer both a BA and a BS in the same major, such as economics or criminal justice or psychology. Overall, you will likely take more humanities, arts, and foreign language courses if you select a BA, and you will likely take more math and science courses if you select a BS. Each plan of study is valuable in its own right. It likely comes down to your preference and your career plans.
Next Steps: Make an appointment with your advisor to discuss your goals and to ensure your associate degree will align well with your bachelor degree. Then review institutional profiles to determine which college offers the degree and major you plan to pursue.
