The Foods and Nutrition major is designed to prepare students for supervised practice leading to eligibility for the Commission on Dietetic Registration credentialing exam to become Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN).

Our graduates may pursue other career options such as Food Service Managers, Dietetic Technicians, Nutrition Education Coordinators, or Food Science Technicians.

What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

Associate Transfer Degree Completion: Completion of the transfer-oriented degree program will satisfy the REAL Curriculum (lower division/general education) requirements.

Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Students completing the associate degree in high school should apply using the freshman application. If admitted, the student will receive the benefits associated with the transferable associate degree (as noted above).

Credit for Prior Learning: Specific course credit will only be added to a student record once official scores are received and evaluated by the Office of Admissions. An official Joint Services Transcript should be sent for evaluation of specific military credit.

Other Than Classes, Are There Other Program Requirements?

3.0 GPA is required to receive a verification statement for a dietetic internship.

Grade of C or better in prerequisite courses: if taken at VCCS: HLT 230; CHM 111 and 112; BIO 101, 141 & 142, 205; PSY 200; MTH 161; MTH 245. If taken at RU: NUTR 214; CHEM 111 and 112; BIOL 105, 310 and 311, 334; PSYC 121; MATH 125; STAT 200.

In order to be eligible for the RDN examination, students must have a MS degree (in any discipline) and complete a supervised practice program/internship.
