Virginia Military Institute
Founded in 1839, Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is the oldest state-supported military college in the US. Our coed institution produces leaders and individuals whose daily lives reflect the integrity & fairness that is instilled at the Institute.

Students admitted to t...see moreVMI has a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,690 cadets and our campus (Post) size is 200 acres. Students admitted to the college are known as military cadets and are required to participate in the Reserve Officers? Training Corps (ROTC). Unlike the federal service academies, Virginia Military Institute cadets are not required to serve in the military upon graduation. Cadets have about 80 academic, professional and social clubs and organizations to choose from upon entering the college.

Catalog year is determined by first semester of attendance.
English Language Proficiency
International applicants must provide test scores that show English language proficiency.

curricular content and instructional methodology. If the semester hour value of a course taken at another college is greater than that of the VMI course for which it is substituted, only VMI's number of hours will be transferred. If the semester-hour value of a course taken at another college is less than that of VMI, the deficient semester hours will have to be earned in order to reach the total required for graduation.

Credit transfer also requires that content of the course be accepted by the appropriate VMI curricular head toward fulfillment of baccalaureate degree requirements in the curriculum, as a general rule on-line courses are not accepted for transfer credit. Transfer credit guidelines are subject to update yearly.
