This curriculum prepares individuals to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL), primarily with persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. Students also study the U.S. Deaf community from a cultural perspective.

Considerations When Selecting Courses

Take ASL 101 your first semester.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and J Sargeant Reynolds Community College within your first year
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses ASL 101, ASL 102, ASL 201 and ASL 202 must be taken in order.
Doing More With Your Degree The ASL CSC builds language fluency in order for students to incorporate ASL into their professions.
