Career Studies Certificate

The career studies certificate in Medical Coding is designed for the student who desires to obtain training in International Classification of Diseases Clinical Modification (ICD), medical coding, and insurance billing.  Upon completion of the program, the student may seek an entry-level position in hospitals, doctors' offices, and more.

Adherence to the guided pathway ensures completion of the program in a timely manner. It is important for students to complete BIO 141 first in the program.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year

Transfer Guidance Element What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion For students transferring to CVCC with an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, SDV 100 credit is awarded. Additional coursework will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Transfer credit will be awarded for equivalent coursework from regionally accredited institutions for which the student earned a grade of C or higher.

Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School For students transferring to CVCC with an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, SDV 100 credit is awarded. Additional coursework will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis. Transfer credit will be awarded for equivalent coursework from regionally accredited institutions for which the student earned a grade of C or higher.
Credit for Prior Learning CVCC awards credit for qualifying scores in AP, CLEP, DANTES, and institutional challenge exams. Credit may also be granted for military service and formal learning experiences.
