Considerations for Selecting Degree	The curriculum is designed to prepare selected students to serve in a dynamic and growing health profession as valuable members of the Dental Health team. The student will be eligible to take the Dental Hygiene National Board Examination and regional clinical examinations required for licensure by the Virginia Board of Dentistry.The Dental Hygiene program consists of a combination of traditional and clinical learning modalities.
Considerations When Selecting Courses	Students in this program should enroll enroll in SDV 101 (Careers in Allied Healthcare ), ENG 111, BIO 141, BIO 142, BIO 150, PSY 200, and an HUM elective. Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year Connect with an advisor at your community college and Germanna Community College within your first year
Program Requirements Beyond Specific Courses	All students will be required to demonstrate college readiness through transcript review or informed self-placement.? Based on this review students may request or be required to enroll in prerequisite or corequisite math and/or English courses.
Doing More With Your Degree	Dental hygienists have many roles beyond clinical care. They can serve as administrators, researchers, educators, advocates, change agents, marketing and sales, and entrepreneurial businesses.
Program Successes & Highlights	Germanna Community College is the only program in Virginia to offer the dental assisting II curriculum. This allows students to complete all recognized roles of allied dental professionals in Virginia. Our program, students, and faculty partner with local safety-net health care organizations to provide comprehensive dental care to the service region.

What If I Have An Associate Degree Or Credit For Prior Learning?

Transfer Guidance Element	What You Need to Know
Associate Transfer Degree Completion	Students who transfer with a completed Associate degree will be awarded SDV 100 and will have their transcript evaluated for other individual course transfer. Students who transfer with a completed Bachelor degree from a U.S. college or university will be awarded SDV 100, ENG 111 and ENG 112. The transcript will be evaluated for other individual course transfer.
Completion of Associate Degree Concurrent with High School	Students earning an associate degree while in high school are not eligible for guaranteed admission programs. All courses are evaluated and transferred as applicable to your degree.
Credit for Prior Learning	Yes; Germanna Credit for Prior Learning
