Guaranteed Admission Agreement

• This degree program is covered by Virginia Tech's Guaranteed Admission Agreement.

• By meeting the following criteria, you are guaranteed admission to the Studio Art Major, BFA Degree:

• Complete a transferable VCCS associate degree.

• Earn a minimum GPA of 3.4 or higher in your degree program. GPA calculations, including in the case of repeated coursework, will follow VCCS policies.

• Meet the minimum admissions requirements for your intended major by completing with a grade of "C" or higher any and all of the "required" coursework for the program as outlined in the Admissions Transfer Roadmap.

• Meet all other requirements outlined in the agreement and apply through the standard transfer admissions process.

What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

• Associate Transfer Degree Completion: The completion of an Associate Degree results in some lower-division general education requirements being met when you transfer to Virginia Tech.

• Credit for Prior Learning: AP, IB, and CLEP are evaluated for credits https://www.registrar.vt.edu/Transferable-Credit.html

• Catalog Year: Catalog year is determined by the first semester of attendance at the community college post high-school graduation.

• Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: The completion of an Associate Degree concurrent with high school results in up to half the required credits (120) towards a BFA degree, with all general education courses satisfied (except those unique to Virginia Tech). Students will be enrolled as a freshman for orientation and engagement purposes.

• Graduates of the Studio Art major at Virginia Tech apply their skills in a variety of careers. Program Successes & Highlights

• World Class Facilities & Faculty: Learn from national and internationally renowned professional artists in state-of-the-art, purpose built teaching studios at Virginia Tech's new Creativity & Innovation District (CID) building.

• Arts & Technology: The Studio Art major integrates emerging technologies into hands-on, material-based experience that is grounded in historical tradition and informed by contemporary artistic practices. Our studios provide access to an impressive suite of fabrication technology including laser cutters, mills, lathes, 3D printers, CNC routers and plasma cutters in addition to fully equipped wood and metal shops, large format digital printers, and facilities for printmaking and screen-printing.

• Exhibition Experience: The exhibition of completed work is a critical part of the artistic process. As part of the Studio Art BFA, students work independently on a personally designed project during their final year, which culminates in a capstone show. Each student is provided with a personal studio space and works closely with an individual mentor during this part of the program. Virginia Tech hosts several galleries including those at the Moss Art Center, the Perspective Gallery at Squires Student Center, SOVA's own Armory Gallery, and the student-run downtown XYZ Gallery.

Other Than Classes, Are There Other Program Requirements?

• Due to the sequencing and scheduled offering of course requirements, it will take transfer students 2.5-3 years (5-6 Fall/Spring semesters) to complete the Studio Art major at Virginia Tech after transferring.
