Earn the transfer associate degree.

Earn minimum GPA of 2.5. VCU recognizes cumulative GPA as recorded on VCCS transcript.

Earn grades of C or higher in all community college courses.

BS in Health Services will prepare future health care leaders with knowledge, skills and competencies to meet challenges of managing responsibilities across range of healthcare organizations. With emphasis on evidence-based practice, program prepares students to work as medical and health services providers charged with planning, directing and coordinating medical and health services. Graduates able to work in diverse health care settings such as hospitals, specific clinical areas or departments within facilities, health management organizations or in medical practice groups. Program designed for students who wish to create pathway into health care field. Provides core set of courses to build foundation of health care knowledge. Provides flexibility for students to focus studies on particular area of interest through selection of open and restricted elective courses. Flexibility gives students opportunity to identify how their strengths, values and skills can best serve health of their communities.

Associate Transfer Degree Completion: Completion results in all lower-division general education requirements met.

Dual Enrollment - Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Results in 60 credits applied and VCU general education satisfied. High school students apply as freshman for orientation purposes.

Credit for Prior Learning: VCU accepts AP, IB, Cambridge, CLEP, DANTES, military credits.

Catalog Year: VCU honors degree requirements from Undergraduate Bulletin at time of first post-high-school enrollment. Students stay enrolled at community college max 4 years, enroll at VCU within 1 year of completing associate.

Program Successes & Highlights

Most required/core courses in Health Services designed for around 30 students per course. Both face to face and online courses seek to engage learners in dynamic and interactive learning environment. Service learning course brings both hands-on experience and career readiness activities to support students transition into new careers. Students in health services program have option to complete entire program face-to-face or complete last two years asynchronously online.

Health Services majors complete service learning experience with partner organization through ALHP 435: Health Care Career Development and Planning in Allied Health Professions. Students have opportunity to serve on Student Advisory Board that advises programmatic initiatives, as well as engage in variety of leadership projects designed to foster diverse learning community.
Other Than Classes, Are There Other Program Requirements?

All students complete at least one VCU REAL experiential learning activity to graduate. Examples: internships, research, service learning. Satisfied by 300+ level REAL course or approved co-curricular experience.
