Earn a transfer associate degree.

Earn a minimum GPA of 2.5 for your associate degree. VCU will recognize the cumulative GPA as recorded on the VCCS transcript and not recalculate based on multiple course attempts.

Complete a minimum of 30 credits at VCCS institution.

Earn grades of “C” or higher in all community college courses. VCU will accept credit for repeated courses for "D" or "F" grades.

Foreign Language curriculum emphasizes study of language as spoken in and shaped by everyday contexts, including work, rest, recreation, and through popular film, music, media. Degree offers opportunities to engage in real world learning through internships, lab-based and field research, study abroad programs. Languages go with every major, minor, or academic program, because everything we do involves communication across languages, cultures, professions.

Catalog Year: VCU honors degree requirements from Undergraduate Bulletin at time of first post-high-school enrollment in appropriate associate degree. Students stay enrolled at community college max 4 years, enroll at VCU within 1 year of completing associate.

Foreign Language majors routinely earn Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships or spend year teaching English with Teaching Assistant Program in France. Spanish majors and Spanish/English Translation and Interpretation students regularly placed with Department of Health and Virginia Judicial System. French Film Festival with internships and REAL experiential learning in subtitling puts VCU students in touch with Francophone filmmakers and artists for immediate and lifelong collaborations.

VCU language majors have several exciting opportunities. For those majoring in Foreign Languages with teaching in mind, School of Education minor in teaching and learning offers provisional certification for teaching Foreign Language in Virginia (and 33 other states). There is accelerated Masters program where French is coupled with Masters in International Marketing in VCU School of Business. VCU offers excellent opportunities to extend knowledge of diverse world by going on Study Abroad programs, or taking Italian language and Less Commonly Taught languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian. We also offer minors in Italian, Russian studies, Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies.

The accelerated B.A. and M.S. program allows qualified students to earn both the B.A. in Foreign Language with a concentration in Spanish and M.S. in Business with a concentration in marketing management in a minimum of five years by completing up to 12 credit hours of approved graduate courses during the senior year of their undergraduate program.
