What Should I Consider When Selecting Courses?

  • Complete foundational courses like English and any math prerequisites in your first year.

  • Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered.

  • Connect with an advisor at your community college and discuss needed coursework for moving toward a four-year major.

  • To explore options go to the Resource Center at www.TransferVirginia.org

Is This Degree Right For Me?

  • Accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, UVA Wise’s computer science program allows students to gain experience while working through a plethora of paid internships. It offers exceptional academics and out-of-class experiences in not only computer science but in cybersecurity. And, many students studying computer science at UVA Wise participate in the Lovelace Society, which honors the first programmer, Ava Lovelace, and advances the study of computer science and related areas of study.

  • Students in this program have completed paid internships at well-known companies and startups thanks to the Wise Works program, which provides funding so that employers and the College cost share the wages of an internship. Companies who have hosted UVA Wise computer science or software engineering interns include Atomicorp, Northrop Grumman, CGI, Booz Allen, and the Virginia Department of Energy.

What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

  • Associate Transfer Degree Completion: The completion of a transfer associate degree results in all lower-division general education requirements being met.

  • Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: The completion of an associate degree concurrent with high school results in 62 credits of coursework applied towards your degree. All general education coursework is satisfied.

  • Credit for Prior Learning: UVA Wise accepts AP, IB, Cambridge, CLEP, DANTES, and military credits – details can be found here – https://www.uvawise.edu/registrar/transferring-courses.

  • Catalog Year: UVA Wise freshmen and transfers typically use the catalog year of entry to the college but may choose to use either of the previous two years when enrolled at the community college.
