Competitive Applicants For UVA's School Of Education And Human Development

Meet all or nearly all of the program's general education requirements.

Earn a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better at your current institution.

Have 54-60 transferable credits.

Have prior experience working with youth; experience can be within or outside of schools.

This transfer guide shows an optimal path to a bachelor's degree in early childhood education at the University of Virginia. Completing the coursework above will position you to transfer to UVA with junior (third year) standing and a pathway to graduate in two years. If you complete the associate degree but haven't taken all of the recommended courses, you may still be able to pursue this degree at UVA's School of Education and Human Development (EHD). Do More With Your Degree!

EHD offers a guaranteed admission pathway for Teacher Education students to enter many of the school's graduate programs within five years of completing the bachelor's degree. Approximately 1/3 of students who complete UVA's undergraduate Teacher Education program pursue a graduate degree at UVA's School of Education and Human Development.
Other Than Classes, Are There Other Program Requirements?

Students will complete a minimum of four clinical experiences in schools in the Charlottesville region. These experiences include two 4-hour/week practicum courses (3rd year fall and spring), a 16-hour/week internship (4th year fall), and full-time student teaching (4th year spring).

Students must complete required exams and trainings to meet state licensing requirements.
