Transfer Guidance
Guaranteed Admission Agreement Requirements
Students with a minimum 2.5 GPA in transferable courses from a Virginia Community College are guaranteed admission to Roanoke College and to all major programs at the college. Students must be in good standing with their prior institution for both academics and conduct.
Students with GPAs 2.2-2.5 are encouraged to apply. We always review individual cases.
Students are encouraged to consider transfer prior to completion of all requirements shown as “Complete at Community College.” Those courses can be added to those to be completed at Roanoke College if desired. Earlier transfer allows access to additional opportunities such as study away and experiential learning opportunities earlier in a student’s time at Roanoke.

What Should I Consider When Selecting Courses?
-
Take a balance of general education and business at community college.
-
Not sure Business is the right major for you? Try one or two courses in another major while at community college to help you decide.
-
Take world language at community college if you are not already proficient. Roanoke College’s foreign language requirement is through the 201 level. If you are starting a new language, that will require 3 semesters. Placement based upon high school study will reduce this. The requirement is waived for native speakers of languages other than English; you will need to take a test on campus.
-
Create a schedule for all required courses, pay attention to prerequisites and when courses are offered, complete your first math and English courses in your first year
-
Connect with an advisor at your community college and Roanoke College within your first year. College Connect available in your account of www.TransferVirginia.org

What Is the Impact on My Degree of Work I Have Already Completed?
-
Catalog Year: Upon enrollment, you may choose to follow either Roanoke’s most recent catalog or any from the prior 2 years.
-
Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Dual enrollment courses transfer to Roanoke College. If you are entering Roanoke straight from high school, you will still need to complete multiple general education courses. Contact us for an individual evaluation.
-
Credit for Prior Learning: No. All prior work must be on a transcript from an accredited institution or from AP or IB results sent to Roanoke College.
Is This College Right For Me?
-
Small classes, great advising, get to know your instructors and other students
-
Commute or live on campus. Career services. Clubs and activities. 17% of transfer students play Division III sports
-
Most classes are 8-5. Most classes are in-person; some regular semester courses and almost all summer courses are taught online.
Did You Know That…
-
Completing your Associate transfer degree post-high school satisfies all lower division general education requirements and increases the chance of completing your bachelor’s degree?
-
Exceeding 3 years or 90 credits at your community college means you may have exhausted your financial aid at that college and have limited your future financial aid at any four-year school.
