• Play a critical role in saving lives and improving the quality of life for patients with chronic respiratory conditions, acute illnesses, or injuries.

• Work with advanced medical equipment like ventilators, oxygen therapy devices, and diagnostic tools. Staying updated with evolving technologies and therapies is both intellectually stimulating and professionally fulfilling.

• Respiratory therapists are needed in various settings, including hospitals, emergency rooms, intensive care units, rehabilitation centers, and even home care.

• The medical field is always advancing, and respiratory therapy is no different. New treatments, therapies, and research create continuous learning opportunities.

• Respiratory therapy is a growing field with increasing demand due to an aging population and the rise of respiratory diseases.

What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

• Associate Transfer Degree Completion: The completion of the transfer-oriented degree program will satisfy the REAL Curriculum (lower division/general education) requirements. Students will need to complete all other University, college, and departmental requirements in order to obtain the baccalaureate degree from RU.

• Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Students completing the associate degree in high school should apply using the freshman application. If admitted, the student will receive the benefits associated with the transferable associate degree (as noted prior).

• Credit for Prior Learning: AP, IB, and CLEP will be evaluated for transfer credits (based on receipt and evaluation of scores). See https://catalog.radford.edu/index.php

• Catalog Year: Students will be subject to the catalog in effect at the time of enrollment at RU unless otherwise requested.

• The Respiratory Therapy program does not have an application of entry into our majors, but maximum enrollment per cohort is 42.

• The Respiratory Therapy program utilizes rolling admissions, after the priority March 1 deadline, until cohorts are full.

• Although there are no other program requirements, students have an opportunity to engage with many student-led clubs and organizations and gain authentic experiences that prepare them for their future post-Radford.
