What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

  • Associate Transfer Degree Completion: The completion of the transfer-oriented degree program will satisfy the REAL Curriculum (lower division/general education) requirements. Students will need to complete all other University, college, and departmental requirements in order to obtain the baccalaureate degree from RU.

  • Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Students completing the associate degree in high school should apply using the freshman application. If admitted, the student will receive the benefits associated with the transferable associate degree (as noted prior).

  • Credit for Prior Learning: Specific course credit will only be added to a student record once official scores are received and evaluated by the Office of Admissions. An official Joint Services Transcript should be sent for evaluation of specific military credit.

  • Catalog Year: Students will be subject to the catalog in effect at the time of enrollment at RU unless otherwise requested.

  • Licensed Spanish language K12 educators are in high demand across the Commonwealth.

  • Foreign language lab to help you practice your new linguistic skills in a supportive, structured environment with peers and qualified, trained tutors.

  • Internship or study abroad is required for most foreign language majors, with funding available through the Kirk Foundation Scholarship and other scholarships.

  • Radford offers a summer study program abroad in China, France, Mexico, and Spain— and a semester or year's study in China, Germany, Spain, and Mexico.

  • Heritage speakers may choose an accelerated path through the major.

  • Studying a foreign language provides you with international skills that enhance your opportunities to work in business or health care, government or law, library science, arts, education, diplomacy or the military, and in publishing, communication, or tourism.

  • Students in foreign languages may participate in the experiential learning program internship, where they can practice in fields such as law, public health, social services, business, communication, and human resources.

  • Employment opportunities increase for those who are fluent in more than one language.

 

Other Than Classes, Are There Other Program Requirements?

  • Must achieve a grade point average of 2.75 or higher in all courses attempted in the major to graduate with a major in Foreign Languages and Literatures.

  • BS degree is available only to Spanish majors seeking K12 licensure as Spanish language educators.

  • To enter the teacher education program students must have a minimum 2.75 overall GPA.

  • Licensure requirements in VA require an additional 15-20 credits beyond the 120 required for graduation for field placements and professional education coursework.
