Transfer Admission Requirements

  • Transfer applicants must have completed the equivalent of MATH 113 Calculus I (4 credits) and Math 114 Calculus II (4 credits) with grades of A or B or C in each MATH course before applying to George Mason. MTH 263 and MTH 264 are the VCCS equivalents of MATH 113 and MATH 114, respectively.

  • Transfer applicants must present a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

  • Prior to applying, VCCS applicants must complete an English composition equivalent to ENGH 101 (ENG 112). Students may provide secondary school coursework or test scores demonstrating English language proficiency.

Systems affect every aspect of our lives, including how we travel (e.g., autonomous vehicles, the national air transportation system), how we work (e.g., computer networks, intelligent robots, the electric power grid), and how we survive (e.g., healthcare systems, sustainable infrastructure systems, financial trading systems). As the world’s systems grow in both scale and complexity, we increasingly need engineers who understand not just the pieces, but how they interact.

  • Systems and Industrial Engineers approach problems like jigsaw puzzles—they fit pieces together while keeping the big picture in mind. They plan for the entire lifecycle of a system, from the time a need is first identified, through system design, development, operation, maintenance, and disposal. What Is The Impact On My Degree Of Work I Have Already Completed?

  • Associate Transfer Degree Completion: Students who complete a transfer associate degree (AS, AA, AA&S, or AFA) from a Virginia Community College will receive a waiver of the Foundation and Exploration (lower division) Mason Core general education categories. To be eligible for the waiver, students must provide the George Mason Office of Admissions with a final, official transcript reflecting the degree conferral date. As a prerequisite for ENGH 302, ENGH 101 is not waived. Students must transfer in or complete ENGH 100 or ENGH 101 at George Mason with a C or higher.

  • Dual Enrollment – Completion of Associate Degree in HS: Applicants are required to apply as freshman

  • Technical Emphasis—Students gain depth by selecting a 9-credit hour sequence of technical electives that constitute a focus in one of the following: Artificial Intelligence for SIE, Aviation Systems, Bioengineering, Climate Change, Energy, and Sustainability, Computer Network Systems, Cyber Security Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Financial Engineering, General Electives, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Research and Data Analytics, or Software Intensive Systems.

  • Bachelors/Accelerated Masters—Qualified undergraduate students may apply for a five-year accelerated BS/MS program leading to a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline and a Master of Science in an area such as Systems Engineering, Operations Research, or Data Analytics Engineering. The accelerated BS/MS program can be completed in a minimum of 141 credit hours for certain graduate program concentrations.

  •  Minor—Students can pursue a minor simultaneously in one or more of the following: Aviation Flight Training and Management, Engineering Management, Leadership and Innovation, Sustainable Systems Engineering, or Peace Engineering.
