PHA126: Foundations I

Examines the basic concepts and principles of mammalian metabolic biochemistry including chemistry, biosynthesis and metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleotides at cellular and organ level as well as the regulation of biochemical pathways and principles of energy transformation. Studies the classification of enzymes and coenzymes, enzyme kinetics and regulation, drug biotransformation, drug receptor properties, fundamentals of pattern recognition that relate chemical structure to pharmacological action, membrane structure and transport, and mechanisms of signal transduction.
